i know it's the third time i recorded "love will keep us alive". the first time was last year, with minh's help, when i hardly memorized the lyrics. then the second time was in beijing, PTR studio; uncle wang helped me recorded a demo with guitar. how about this time?
yeah man! it was done at home... in just one day! i didn't even go to chang yuan's house this time. coz i realized that recording can be done using $10 microphone as well. And... instead of using Audacity, i chose adobe audition 3.0! it's not any worse than cubase sx 3 or even pro tools. btw, i must mention about guitar pro 5.2 again; i used it to make the drum beats, bass and electric guitar sound.
can you see the microphone i used? hahax...and below is the guitar that i borrow from jade! and the monitor earphone from cheng hung!
p.s. the earphone was only for recording because the playback is not supposed to go back into the mic again... during the mastering, i used 2.0 loudspeakers...
i don't want to say it sounds great coz you know the equipment that i have... and any way it was just for fun. the stereo effect was screwed up (you would feel a little dizzy with the guitar sound)... uncle wang didn't teach me a single thing about mixing last december...
here is the whole process of making an simple recording at home. continue if you are really interested.
01/ find proper background music. if not, make your own one with software like guitar pro or reason. bounce every single instrument into different tracks.
02/ run software like cubase, adobe audition or audacity. import all the tracks made in step 01.
03/ adjust the volume. wear earphone. record the guitar or whatever instruments that u have.
04/ record the main vocals.
05/ record the harmonic vocals.
06/ apply equalizers onto tracks and set the stereo panning positions.
07/ apply hard limiter and reverb onto master.
* if you are using a mac, u can do all the jobs using garageband.
